FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Mosley Replies To Criticism (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. In a statement to the Press, replying to criticisms of his meeting on Saturday, Sir Oswald Moseley said: “Can anything surpass the impudent hypocrisy of politicians who supported the world war on a plea of preserving freedom of thought and speech and then made victory echo with demands for the suppression of freedom in everyone except themselves?” He added that some people were indignant because they no longer had Defence Regulation 188 to suppress ideas and arguments they could not answer in fair debate. They preferred to shelter behind political intimidation.
