Concession For Christmas Shopping In order not to confuse the buying public during the busy period up to Christmas, a meeting of retail trade erouns yesterdav, convened by the South Canterbury Employers’ Association, agreed to recommend to retailers to remain open on Saturday mornings up to and including Saturday, December It was explained that the Employers' Association had urged the Government to delay the implementation of the Bill until January 1. 1946. in order to allow the buying public to do their Christinas shopping under the old conditions, but the Government had rejected this suggestion and had made the Bill operative immediately. At a subsequent meeting of representatives of the drapery retail trade, the recommendations were agreed to. and it was decided to open on Saturday mornings until and including December 22, and close on Saturday mornings subsequent to that date. lhe Dunedin Master Grocers’ Union of Employers has decided to act in accordance with the direction of the Government and will observe the 40hour week from January 1 bv remaining closed on Sn*urdev mornings
