RURAL HOUSING

No Need In Levels County

Advice was received by the Levels County Council yesterday from the State Advances Corporation that the balance of £lO.OOO would be available for rural housing in the county for a further 12 months.

Remarking that there did not appear to be any necessity for housing, the chairman (Mr R. G. Cleland) said that the Council had invited farmers to make application under the scheme. Only five applications had been received and in every instance the persons holding mortgages on the properties had refused to allow the houses to be built. "Houses have not been wanted in the past; it does not seem that they will be required in the future." added Mr Cleland.

It was agreed to inform the State Advances Corporation of this.
