TRANSPORT COMMAND
Cessation Of Pacific Service (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Dec. 4. As soon information was received strong representations were made to the United Kingdom Government to countermand the orders to discontinue the R.A.F. Transport Command Pacific service, said the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) in the House of Representatives this afternoon in reply to an urgent question by Mr E. P. Aderman (National, New Plymouth). Mr Jones said the New Zealand Government was advised that with the cessation of hostilities against Japan the service could no longer be justified on military grounds. The possibility of instituting a civil air service across the Pacific as an interim arrangement pending the inauguration of a regular British Commonwealth Pacific service was being explored and the New Zealand Government was awaiting the further views cf the United Kingdom authorities.
