PURCHASE OF HEALTH STAMPS
River Control Funds Not Available A decision that the funds of the Board could not be used for purchasing health stamps was reached by the South Canterbury Catchment Board at yesterday's meeting. “These health stamps do a lot of good, but it is not the function of this Board to contribute funds toward objects for which the funds have not been subscribed.” said the chairman (Dr. P. R. Woodhouse), when a circular letter from the South Canterbury Health Camp Association, asking for assistance by buying health stamps was being considered. “With some local bodies this expense has grown into a big item. We are concerned with soil conservation and river control, and I feel that we must spend our funds solely in that, direction.” On the motion of the chairman, a resolution was adopted “that a reply be sent to the South Canterbury Health Camp Association expressing appreciation of its wprk. but that this board regrets that it has no funds available for this purpose.”
