Bowling And Golf The Kurow Bowling Club will hold its official opening day on Saturday. The committee has worked hard tor the last few weeks and the green has never been in better order. Arrangements have been made with Mr C. Munro to graze the golf course with 2000 sheep for a short term. When the present growth is eaten off members will be able to play summer golf, as growth should be checked until the autumn. Mr Munro has agreed to fence in the young trees so that no damage will be done. Fishing With more settled weather Lake Waitaki is fishing well. Some good catches have been reported both on the drv fly and the Devon. A local party fished the Ahuriri Gorge over the week-end but the river was high and slightly discoloured and only one fish was caught. Fish were rising to the fly in the deep holes and probably exciting sport could be had fishing with a drv flv. though it would be difficult to hold the fish in the fast water. Public Library The committee has spring cleaned the library and repaired a number of books. Old and badly damaged books have been discarded. New fiction is to hand and will be placed on the shelves within a few days. Because of the ruling high price of books it is difficult to purchase many books at a time, and the committee would welcome donations of suitable reading matter.
