GERALDINE SWIMMING POOL
No Subsidy Forthcoming No subsidy from the Education Department is available toward the cost of reconstructing the swimming baths in the Geraldine Domain. Replying to representations made on behalf of the Geraldine Domain Board by Mr J. Acland, M.P., the Director of Education said that he had now been informed by the Education Board that its architect had visited Geraldine recently and discussed the matter with the Mayor (Mr D. C. McKechnie) and with the chairman of the school committee (Mr P. M. McKenize). While it was recognised by the Board that the municipal baths were in need of repairs and improvements, the school committee had not abandoned the idea of installing a swimming pool at the school. In view of this fact, the Board felt that the Department's subsidy should be reserved for possible use by the school committee in the construction of a learners' pool at the school. The chairman: This information does not tally with the information given by the deputation from the school committee at our last meeting. It was agreed to refer the letter to the school committee for its comments. Girls For Factory Sufficient girls to make a good start at the glove factory were engaged yesterday, said Mr R. H. Sutherland who thanked the Mayor for the assistance he had been elven. Further girls, whose names have been handed in, will be interviewed next Tuesday.
