Mr E. Burke has returned to Dunedin after visiting his mother. Mrs M. Burke. “Clareleigh.” Corporal C. T. Johnston and Mrs Johnston who have been visiting Mrs J. A. Johnston are now the guests of Mrs Nicol, Taiko. Miss B. Markham has returned to Christchurch. Weather Rain was recorded on 11 days in September the heaviest fall being recorded on the 24th and 25th when 2.07 inches fell. The rainfall for the month was 4.21 inches, making 38.04 inches for the nine months. War Memorial At a general meeting of residents, Mr C. C. Burdon presiding, proposals were put forward for a war memorial. Messrs Burdon, H. Coulter, P. Ivey, Jim South, and N. South were appointed a committee to consider the cost of three proposals finding favour and report to a later meeting. Red Cross At a meeting of the Orari Bridge Sub-branch of the Red Cross Mrs J. Wordsworth presided. Some dissatisfaction was expressed at the levy for headquarters. The matter of sending tinned food to Unrra was held over. It was decided that the branch continue with its activities until the end of the present financial year and that the stock of linen on hand be given to Unrra. Members were asked if they would be willing to offer hospitality to soldiers discharged from hospital. Those willing to do sewing were asked to arrange with Mrs C. McDonald . who would then get garments from the Geraldine Depot. The following goods were handed in: Three pairs socks, three pullovers and three skirts. Mesdames C. Mackenize, N. R. South and I. W. Johnston were tea hostesses at the September meeting.
