BELSEN TRIALS

Experiments On Camp Inmates LONDON. Oct. 1. Medical experiments which were fatal to the victims were described by a Jewish doctor, Charles Bendel, at the trial of SS guards at Luneburg. ‘ Dr. Bendel told the court that subjects for the experiments were drawn from gypsies at Auschwitz, where the camp doctor, Mengele, attempted to discover a formula to ensure mothers bearing twins. Research work included injections for which Dr. Mengele always used lethal doses because he preferred to examine the victims after death. One thousand gypsies out of 11,000 survived at Auschwitz, and others died in the gas chamber or crematorium, or from other causes in the camp. The prosecutor’s list of witnesses is nearing the end, but more than 100 affidavits have not yet been presented.
