ATOMIC BOMBS
Defence Device Claimed NEW YORK, October 1. The American scientist, Mr Larry Crosby, head of the Crosby Research Foundation, which conducted the -reliminary experiments with the atomic bomb, claims to have invented a device to destroy atomic bombs without knowing their exact location. Mr Crosby said the simplicity of the defence might prove a menace because amateur experimenters might explode a store of atomic bombs as far away as four miles. Declining to divulge the basic principles of the defence. Crosby said the secret would be turned over to the proper authorities on condition -that it was used solely to compel fair treatment of the United States by other nations. Officials of the foundation disputed the claim that uranium atoms, as used in bombs, might, be harnessed for industrial use. These atoms were far too dangerous for beneficial adaptation, bu* other safer and more suitable atoms were more readily available in quantity for industrial use.
