BIG INCREASE
Magistrates Salaries (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON Oct. 2. After a Cabinet decision, financial provision is being made in the Estimates for all magistrates to be paid £llOO a year thus eliminating the differentiation between magistrates which has existed for many years, said the Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) to-day. The Minister said that hitherto the senior magistrate in each of the four centres had been receiving £lOO a vear and all other magistrates £9OO. The change to £llOO for all magistrates will require an amendment of the Magistrate's Court Act during the present, session.
