SPORTS MEETING
Varied Programme Caledonian Grounds Favoured by perfect weather conditions, the sports meeting at the Caledonian Grounds attracted a large number of competitors on Saturday. The meeting was organised by the South Zone Committee of the Citizens’ Carnival Committee. It was run in a picnic atmosphere with a wide variety of competitions. In a girls teams competition Spitfire 123 points) were first. Kiwi (10 points) second, and C.F.C.A. (8 points) third. At the conclusion of the sports Mr A. Bell (president of the executive of the South Canterbury R.S.A.) presented a cup to the winning team. Spitfire. The success of the day was due to a great extent to the efforts of the South Zone Committee, the following officials being in charge of the meeting:—Men’s committee, president. Mr R. K. Goldsmid; secretary, Mr R. Smith; in charge of programme. Mr C. Hardingham; starter, Mr F. Hansen. Women’s committee:—President, Mrs A. G. Gowan; secretary, Miss J. Dixon.
