The Timaru Cycling Club was favoured with a beautiful day for the Speight Shield road race of 18 miles to the Arowhenua Hotel and back. There were 15 starters. Bill Begg rode a perfectly-judged race to come in a winner by 200 yards and take the trophy the first time it was competed for. Results:— W. Begg <smin) 49min 58sec .... 1 J.
