SINO-BRITISH CRISIS
Report Denied (Rec. 10.30 p.m.)' LONDON, Aug. 19. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Observer” states that reports published in American newspapers yesterday regarding an “acute Sino-British crisis” over the impending surrender of the Japanese forces at Hong Kong are without foundation. Tire British authorities deny that there has been a “race” between Britain and China to receive the Japanese surrender at Hongkong. He added it is known that the Chinese Government hopes for the ultimate return of Hongkong to China, therefore it is unlikely that Britain would prejudice the matter over such a minor question as the surrender of the few thousand Japanese troops
