ALLIED FLEET OFF JAPAN
Mighty Force GUAM, August 16. Admiral Chester Nimitz disclosed that the Allied Fleet off Japan before the armistice consisted of 133 British and American ships of the line, plus many scores of supplementary craft. He named eight battleships. 16 carriers 19 cruisers and 62 destroyers, all American- also the following British ships: the battleship King George V, the carriers Formidable, Implacable, Victorious and Indefatigable, the cruisers Newfoundland, Achilles, Uganda. Gambia. Black Prince and Euryalus- the destroyers Grenville, Undaunted, Urchin, Undine, Urania, Ulysses, Quickmarch, Quiberon, Quality, Quadrant, Troubridge, Tenacious. Wrangler, Wakeful, Terpsichore, Teazer and Termapent
