Invercargill Makes Early Start
(N.Z.P.A.) INVERCARGILL. Aug. 13. Peace, or no peace, Invercargill celebrated to-day. About 10 o’clock sirens were sounded in the streets and that was the signal for hundreds of shop and office girls to down tools and pour into the streets, where, determined nor to be done out of the celebrations for a second time, they wasted no time in making merry. A crowd of girls came to a halt inside one vegetable shop and volleyed cabbages and other greenstuff's back into the shop, which immediately ceased business. Excitement increased as the morning wore on and cheering and whistling crowds surged up and down the streets, while decorated lorries and cars carried a full complement and more standing on the running boards and lying across the bonnets. Confetti was strewn everywhere and a spirit of revelry spread throughout the city.
