WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST
FINE The following is the forecast for South Canterbury issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the period ending 5 pan. to-day:— General Situation There is a depression north of Nety Zealand and an anti-cyclone east of the South Island. Forecast Winds.—Light to moderate variable winds. Weather.—Fine and cold. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rises at to-day 8.3 a.m.; sets 5.20 High water at Timaru to-day 11.39 a.m.; 12.4 p.m.
A HARD FROST A fine sunny day yesterday followed the hardest frost this winter. Following are the records taken at Timaru Park for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday with the exception of the maximum temperature and sunshine for the day, which were taken at 7 p.m.:— Max. temperature in shade: 45.4. Min. temperature on grass: 15.0. Frost: 17 degrees. Wind: Nd. Rainfall: Nil. Rainfall to date this year: 22.89in5. Rainfall to date last year; 16.64in5. Sunshine: 7.0 hours. Sunshine to date this year: 1051.0 hrs Sunshine to date last year: 961.4 hrs IN OTHER CENTRES Temuka.—Yesterday was fine with an easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 39 degrees and the minimum 10. There were 22 degrees of frost. The glass was steady last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday).—Barometer. 29.6; thermometer, maximum 47, minimum 24.5: frost, 17.5 degrees; bright sunshine, 8 hours 18 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 29. Yesterday was sunny, but cold.
