BIG DRAFT ARRIVES
Repatriated Prisoners Of War (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 19. About 900 of New Zealand's former prisoners of war arrived at Wellington to-day. The men were welcomed in the harbour by an official party, and after berthing quickly disembarked into transport which took Wellington members of the draft to their homes and other North Islanders to their own districts. By an early hour this evening all the New Zealanders on the ship were on their way home. Most of the men had been released In the final stages of the conquest of Germany, and many of them had been confined in both Ital’an and German prison camps since as far back as 1940. The draft included 95 Wellington men, 17 from the Waiter'pa. 83 from Taranaki. 37 from Hawke's Bay. 24 from Gisborne. 325 from Auckland Province and 305 South Islanders.
