ON OUTSKIRTS OF KWEILIN

Chinese Progress (7.30 p.m.) CHUNGKING. July 17. The Chinese High Command announced that forward elements of Chinese infiltrated to the outskirts of Kweilin. Others reached within 40 miles of the city. The Chinese also drove a wedge m the Hunan-Kwangsi railway between Kweilin and Chaunhse, 67 miles northeast of Kweilin, cutting off ’he enemy retreat along the railway. Other Chinese forces captured Hinpak, the coastal highway town between the Liuchow Peninsula and Hainan Island. The Chinese have occupied the north-eastern corner of Indo-China.
