SPANISH MONARCHY

Franco Seeks Restoration MADRID, July 17. “The traditional monarchy is the only system for Spain.” said General Franco in an address to (he Falange Council. “I hope in due course that the Cortes will examine and the nation approve a law for the restoration of the monarchy." General Franco added that, one oi his greatest concerns was to ensure his succession in accordance with the will of the Spanish people without impairing the work of the Falange movement. “Those who expect a reactionary turn in Spanish politics are thoroughly mistaken. Il is paradoxical at a time when Spain is carrying out great, social tasks., one should meet hostility from abroad. Foreign propaganda speculates about Spanish public ('pinion' being anti-regime, but the Spanish political situation was never more stable than now.”
