TE NGAWAI PARISH

Annual Meeting At the annual meeting ot parishioners of Te Ngawai the Vicar, the Rev. G. H. Schurr, presided over a good attendance. “In this year of victory, which we hope will also see victory over Japan, we should show our gratitude to God for His many mercies, by increased personal devotion and more regularattendance at worship,” stated the Vicar in his report. The Vicar expressed grateful thanks to all who had assisted to carry on the parish work during his absence through illness, special mention being made of the help rendered oy the Rev. Mr Oldham, of Christchurch, and Messrs Richardson and Kingston of Cave. Reference was made to the loss by death during the year of valued parishioners and the sympathy of the parish would go out to the relatives. Sunday Schools, Ladies' Guilds and other parish organisations had carried on their work, and a satisfactory progressive year could be reported. Membership of the Mothers' Union was small and new members would be welcomed. Church attendances had not been maintained at the previous year’s high level. The outstanding financial event of the year had been the raising of £6OO to reduce the mortgage on the vicarage. The sum of £5OO had been raised by voluntary contributions and £lOO had been given by the Pleasant Point Ladies’ Guild. The old vicarage had been sold and part of the proceeds would be available to reduce the debt further. As a small sum would be outstanding the meeting decided that the vestry should endeavour to raise the necessary sum by voluntary contributions. The vicarage had recently been painted and was now in very good condition. Ordinary parish finance was in a sound position. Offertories had Increased slightly. The Board of Missions quota had again reached £5O and St. Saviour’s annual appeal had been well supported. Church officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Vicar’s Warden, Mr G. B. Baker; people's Warden. Mr W. H. Talbot; Vestry. Mrs P. D. Roberts, Mrs Muir and Messrs L. Gray, N Kingston. E. Wolff. M. Richardson, C. G. Roberts. H. Knubley. H. C. Askin and O. Fort: auditor. Mr C. Ley; delegate to St Saviour’s Committee. Mrs G. B. Baker; synodsman, Mr G. B. Baker; parochial nominators. Messrs G. B. Baker, W. H. Talbot. R. E. Kingston and C. G Roberts.
