PERSONAL
Advice has been received that Private Frank Averts and Warrant Officer W. Hayman, R.N.Z.A.F., of Timaru, are safe in England after being prisoners, of war in Germany. Owing to his' pending visit to the United States for six months on Government business, Mr J. C. Riddell, representative of the Public Works Department on the South Canterbury Catchment Board, was granted leave of absence at the Board meeting yesterday. The chairman (Dr. P. R. Woodhouse) expressed regret at the temporary absence of Mr Riddell from the Board meetings, and a hope that he would be able to investigate soil erosion and conservation problems while abroad. Mr Riddell replied that while his major duty would be to study irrigation, arrangements had been made for him to visit the Tennessee Valley so he would have some opportunity to study soil erosion and conservation measures.
Mr O. G. Davey has joined the Rehabilitation Department at Timaru on transfer from the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr D. J, Bell has been transferred from the Timaru office to the Christchurch office of the Rehabilitation Department. Miss J. Ramsaw has also joined the staff of the Rehabilitation Department at Timaru.
