UNREST IN NORTH AFRICA

Europeans Massacred (12.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 18. Berbers massacred more than 100 Europeans in an uprising in North Africa last week, reports the Paris correspondent of the Associated Press. The disturbances, according to colonial experts, were mainly the result of a rising tide of pan-Arabism and occurred in wild mountain country between Algiers and Constantine. French farmers, their wives and children and colonial officers were shot, stabbed and beaten to death. Food scarcities are believed to have contributed to the unrest.
