Escapees From Lock-up (N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND. April 26. Tso Maoris who escaped on Tuesday night from the vicinity Of the police lock-up at Kaikohe, where they had been held on charges of breaking, entering and theft, experienced only a brief period of liberty. One, Peter Rameka, aged 21. a labourer, was recaptured near Henderson on Wednesday night, and the other. Pere Ngatai, was arrested in the bar of an hotel this afternoon. The men left the lock-up at Kaikohe under police escort at 9 o’clock on Tuesdav night for a few minutes in the fresh air. but as soon as they were out in the open they dashed away across a paddock. When the police stopped a motor car at Henderson on Wednesday night, the two men jumped out and ran. The police followed and later caught Rameka. He was charged with being an incorrigible rogue in that he escaped from the Kaikohe police gaol. He was remanded. This afternoon the police went to an hotel in Newton where they arrested Ngatai.
