KU ROW-H AKA BOWLING CLUB
Officers Appointed A well attended meeting of those interested in reforming the Kurow Bowling Club was held in the Kurow Memorial Hall. Officers were appointed as follows: President, Mr A. C. J. Robinson; secre-tary-treasurer, Mr M. G. Gow; committee, Messrs H. C. Hodges, J. A. Jackson, A. H. McKinnon, P. L. Dobbs, E. Dean and A. H. Hunt. The need for topdressing the green was emphasised and it was resolved that the club attempt to obtain the services of a greenkeeper from the Oamaru Centre to advise on this matter. Those present pledged themselves to form a working-bee to carry out the suggested work.
The question of fixing the subscription for next season was deferred until a general meeting to be held in September or October, a list to be opened in the meantime for voluntary subscriptions from those who have enjoyed the privileges of the green this year and from those of the public who are interested in assisting this addition to th° town’s amenities. A Lake Waitaki supporter generously gave £5 and other amounts were received at the close of the meeting. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Robinson and Shannon for the time and work they had given to maintaining the green for the last three years.
Anzac Day Anzac Day was celebrated by a parade of returned soldiers, Girl Guides and school children who marched to the Hakataramea Memorial for the ceremony of the depositing of wreaths. The parade then marched to the Kurow Memorial Hall where the service wa« held. Tire sneaker was the Rev. D. Stewart, of Oamaru. who chose as his theme the spirit of Anzac, and in an impressive address brought out the need of righteousness, unselfishness and good character to build a new world when this conflict is ended. Associaterl with Mr Stewart wore the Rev. D. Dorman, the Rev. L. Geering and Mr D. Small iR.S.A.) Fishing Fishermen have had little luck during the last week. Although the Waitaki has cleared very few salmon have been caught. The run has not yet begun, and Mr R. Irvine reports that very few fish have been caught in the trao. On the whole the fishing season has been disanpointing. The Hakataramea has not fished well and the Waitaki has been high and discoloured for most of the season. ENGAGEMENT Mr and Mrs Brickell, 9 Evans Street, announce the engagement of their younger daughter. Jeanne Lorraine, to Murray Clifford, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Harrison. 19 Arthur Street.
