SAVAGE CLUB
New Officers Elected There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Savage Club last night. Great Chief V. H. Kea'y presided and extended a welcome to members, including Corporal H. F. Shea, recently returned from overseas, and Sergeant 3. Walter, of the United States forces. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the Great Chief expressed his thanks to the Council and other officers and to the floor members for their loyal support during the year. Of all the organisations with which he was associated, he had enjoyed his term as Great Chief the most. Savage M. B. Richards congratulated thg Great Chief on the success of the year, and expressed the opinion that the soldiers’ parcel fund should be expended to the extent of 95 per cent on behalf of members overseas.
Ex-Great Chief G. Walker disagreed with this view, stating that he considered the Council had done good work, and was justified in having a balance which might be utilised in the way of providing a memorial on some other suitable purpose associated with soldier members. A recommendation along the lines of Savage Richards’ remarks was defeated.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Great Chief. R. N. Downes; Ex-Great Chief, V. H. Keay; Braves, J. J. Conroy and de Lacy Cameron: Scribe. Savage C. G. Barker; High Scalphunter, Ex-Great Chief J. Gilchrist; Tohunga, Ex-Great Chief H. W. Brownie; auditor. Savage W. I. Tait; Council, warriors W. Wilson. E. Glover. G. Glover. G. Prater and G. Henderson.
