RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Apr. 19. Maggiore and The Vulture were mates this morning in a school over six hurdles. They went at a fast pace all the way and gave a brilliant exhibition of jumping. They are both engaged in the hurdle race at Washdyke next week. Maggiore is not so forward as The Vulture but she is going on well in her preparation in view of a trip to Auckland, for the Great Northern Hurdles, early in June. F. Christmas sent Tamerlane by himself over five hurdles, and after beingcareful at the first he jumped the others in good style. He has had some education at home and he shows promise. Fluorescent, who is a four-year-old half-brother to Dividend, shaped very well in a run over the pony hurdles. Arctic Dawn looks well after six months’ spell. He and St. Joachim are being trained at present by their owner, Mr C. G. Tansey. while the application of G. Eliot for a trainer's licence is being considered by the authorities. C. C. McCarthy has turned Chicago out and he will be spelled till the spring. Paladeo will go south to-night, on his way to Wingatui, where F. Shaw will prepare him for steeplechases. A. S. Ellis has made a start with a yearling gelding by Wild Chase-Knock-ando, by Jericho-Knocklynn. Kilcato is training on well and W. Barr hopes to have him at his best for hurdle races at the Dunedin meeting in June. Rockery, the hurdle winner at Riccarton last Saturday, will be got ready for steeplechases. He may go north next month for the Waikato meeting, with Auckland to follow.
