WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
South Canterbury Federation At a meeting of the executive of the South Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes, Miss E. L. J. Davies presided. There were also present Mesdames G. A. M. Macdonald, A. B. Mackenzie, G. H. Steven, J. A. McLeod, J. Kennedy, H. O’Connor, E. Duff, D. A. Pearce, I. M. Bell (treasurer), and W. L. Harrison (secretary). Mrs Mackenzie read the reports sent by Mrs A. H. Gillingham on the Hospitality Circle and Group Travel. Accommodation had been arranged in the country for 11 persons over the holidays. Through the kindness of former Institute members it was now possible, for members in the country to obtain bed and breakfast in Tlmaru, Christchurch and Dunedin. Arrangements had been made for a Group Travel visit to Anakiwa in the Picton Sounds early in March. Miss Davies reported a substantial increase in revenue from the depot. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks and appreciation to Miss McAlister for the competent way she had coped with the extra work caused through goods being damaged with the flood waters which had penetrated the building during the hailstorm experienced last month.
Mrs Duff, convener for the trophy presented by Mrs L. E. Williams for the Institute with the greatest percentage of babies for the year ending February, 1945, presented a report. Arrangements were made for voluntary organisers to attend the annual meeting of the Institute. The agenda was arranged for the annual federation meeting to be held in April.
