BAD FRUIT

Sir, —I remember some years back, seeing in a Chicago fruiterer’s store the notice: .“Don’t go elsewhere and be had—come here." How delightfully frank! Of course, they do nothing like that in Timaru unless it happens that you see some rather nice-looking peaches in a fruiterer’s window at 1/a pound. It is only then, taking your courage in your hands, you enter the store, place your shilling on the counter, take up your purchase and depart. On arriving home you proudly place your parcel on the table and when your wife pounces gleefully on it your pride knows no hounds. “Pig feed,” she proclaims, as she opens up the bag. She was right.—l am, etc., ’ TIMARU VISITOR.
