STRATHEONA

Board Of Managers The monthly meeting of the Board of Managers was held at the hostel. There were present:—Mesdames H. B. S. Johnstone (chairman), J. A. McLeod (organising secretary), E. S. Andrews, C. C. Douglas, B. Evans, M. Guild, M. Satterthwaite and Miss D. Austin. The matron reported that the month had been a busy one in the hostel and in spite of wet weather much work had been done in the garden. Two girls had completed their training and had been appointed to positions in country homes. Applications from prospective trainees were received. A former resident of New Zealand, nc-.v living in London, wrote asking for information about Stratheona. It was decided to send particulars and photorraphs. During the month donations either in money or groceries were received from the Hilton, Taiko, Claremont and Arowhenua Women’s Institutes, from the Albury W.D.F.U. and from several wellwishers. Sixth Annual Reunion In the afternoon beautiful weather and the pleasant surroundings of Stratheona helped to make the sixth annual reunion a very happy on. It was attended by many ex-trainees, parents and friends. Mr P. B. Foote acted as chairman and reminded thope nresent of the example set by the founder of Stratheona, the late Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., who worked so unselfishly for the good of his country. Mr Foote also spoke of the aims and objects of Stratheona and of the part trainees play in the community life of South Canterbury. Mrs T. D. Burnett nresented badges U seven trainees who, during the last few months, have completed their training. Miss A. Burnett presented diplomas to seven trainees who have completed two years in South Canterbury homes. Congratulations were extended to trainees for awards gained a,t the Pleasant Point flower show and to an ex-trainee who received nine prizes for baking at the St. Andrews show. Pianoforte solos were given by Misses Marjorie Wilson and Joan Hoskins and vocal solos by Mrs Turpie and Mrs C. S'ewart. A sales table, the work of the trainees, was well supported. A delicious afternoon tea was served.
