BOWLING WOMEN’S CENTRE A Successful Year

The annual r iort of the South Canterbury Women’s Bowling Centre states that 10 clubs are affiliated to the Centre. The inter-club games for tne Ferguson Cup again had to be abandoned owing to transport restrictions. The representative match, South Canterbury v. Canterbury, for the Sampson trophy, was played in Christchurch on the Sydenham green and resulted in a win for Canterbury. The champion of champion singles, played on the Kia Toa green, was won by Mrs R- Wilson (Timaru Club). The Moore shield was keenly contested by all clubs, West End being the winners. A fours competition for the Christine Hanan trophv, played on the Park Green was won bv Kia Toa —Mesdames Crisp (s), Shepard. Adams and O’Connor. Owing to wet weather the handicap pairs competition had to be abandoned. A patriotic tournament played on tne Kia Toa green was won by Temuka Mesdames Davis (s). Winter,. Wikon and Whitehead. The proceeds from the tournament and the patriotic shop, C94/16/2 were handed to the Patriotic Fund. At the South Canterbury tournament tli° standard of bowling was excellent and come interesting contests were -. itr.essed. Mrs Abbott (Dunedin) won the singles, Mesdames Abbott and Heenan (Dunedin) the pairs and Mesdames Adams (s). Watts, Jamieson and Bremner (Phoenix. Oamaru) the fours. “The executive sincerely trusts that the anxiety of war will soon be over and that neace will once again be restored.” states the report.
