FAT LAMB INDUSTRY

Important Role After The War (Rec. 7.10 p.m.) CANBERRA, Oct. 2. The fat lamb industry would play an important part in Australia’s post-war export trade, said the Minister for Commerce, Mr W. ■J. Scully, to-day, announcing that lambs slaughtered had increased from 8,580,000 in 193839 to 10,491,000 in 1943-44. In the period immediately before the war Australia and New Zealand supplied about 85 per cent, of lambs to the United Kingdom market, which was practically the only available export market. It was most important, said Mr Scully, that Australia’s fat lamb export should be maintained at the highest possible level.
