Relic of Early New Zealand.— A recent earlv morning blaze among rubbish in the vestibule of the Dominion Farmers’ Institute Buildings in Featherston Street. Wellington, involved a relic of early New Zealand, an exhibit section of a mighty rimu computed to have been about 800 years old. According to a notice displayed on the exhibit, which is itself 7ft 9in in diameter, the tree from which it came grew at Kakahi, Main Trunk, and reached a height of approximately 120 feet. The butt log milled measured 26 feet, and the production of sawm timber was 14.500 board feet. The exhibit was rather badly charred by the fire.
