Battalion Parade
No. 2 Company (St. Pauls. I-igh-field) retained the Waters Cup for the drill championship for the third sear in succession at the South Canterbury Bovs’ Brigade Battalion annual field dav which was held in the Timaru Main School grounds on Saturday afternoon. No. 4 Comyany (Timaru Baptists) won the Tweedy Cup for the runner-up. , .. The battalion was under the com - mand of Captain L. A. Waters and the bovs gave an impressive display of inarching in battalion and company formation to music by the brigade pipe band Major C. W. H. Tripp, D. 5.0.. acted as judge. An inspection was made by Major Tripp and the Mayor (Mr A. E. S. Hanan) and Mrs Hanan, Major Tripp taking the salute at the march past. At the conclusion of the parade, the Rev W Robinson, president of the South Canterbury Boys’ Brigade Battalion Council, expressed appreciation of the interest of the Mayor and Mrs Hanan in the Boys’ Brigade. They were also greatly indebted to Major Tripp for acting as judge. Mr Robinson apologised for the absence of Mrs W G. Tweedy. Major Tripp congratulated the boys on the standard attained, which had been much better than he had anticipated. He gave the boys helpful advice on improving their drill. The Mayor said that he desired publicly to congratulate Major Tripp on being awarded the Distinguished Service Order. Mr Hanan paid a tribute to the Boys' Brigade officers for their work in helping to make good citizens.
Captain Waters congratulated the winners and expressed appreciation of the services of Major Tripp as judge. Mr Hanan then presented the Waters Cup to No. 2 Company and Mrs Hanan the Tweedy Cup to No. 4 Company
