WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WINCHESTER The Winchester Women's Institute held its birthday party in the Victoria Hall. Miss L. Priddle presented the prizes for rhe year as follow: Miscellaneous competitions: Married, Mrs J. B Smith 1, Mrs Willcocks 2. Single, Miss E. Archibald 1, Miss L. Priddle 2. Bloom: Married, Mrs Blackham. Single, Miss Priddle. Shrub: Married, Mrs South. Single, Miss E. Archibald and Miss Priddle (equal). Cup for most points, Miss E. Archibald. Songs were given bv Misses McClelland and Mr J. B. Smith. Novelty items were won by Misses Horan and Ferguson (Monte Carlo), Mrs Woods and Mrs Bray (lucky partner), Miss Beattie and Andy Archibald (balloon). TEMUKA Mrs W. L. Harrison presided at the August meeting of the .Temuka Women’s Institute. A talk on their visit to Mt. Cook was given by Mesdames W. L. Harrison and F. M. Martin. Mrs Boyes gave a talk on her visit to the Ball Hut. Mesdames Clark and Mclnnes were appointed delegates to attend the agricultural meeting. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: Bottle of tomatoes. Mrs H. Wilson. Prettiest jug and basin, Mrs •J. M. Taylor and Mrs A. Greenfield (equal) 1, Mrs A. Searle and Mrs J. Beeby (equal) 2, Mrs W. Tait 3. Six assorted pastries, Mrs J. Beeby 1. Single bloom, Mrs C. Donnithorne 1, i Mrs Prattley 2.
