A POTENTIAL EMPIRE

Australia’s Northern Territory (Rec 9.20 p.m.) SYDNEY. July 3. Australia's northern territory could be built into an empire, said Mr Nelson T. Johnson, American Minister to the Commonwealth, after a 10-dav inspection of the area. But this could be achieved only if the Government embarked on a definite plan to open up the land to primary producers. He advocated a considerable development of rail transport in the area. “If the Government provided chances for young men and women in the Northern Territory great cities would grow up within 40 or 50 years,” said Mr Johnson. "No country in the world offers greater opportunities for young people than the Northern Territory.”
