Timaru Branch At the monthly meeting of the Timaru branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Miss Fyfe presided. Mrs Woodward reported that the seamen in port during the last month made good use of the Rest, and expressed gratitude for the hospitality and kindness received. One young New Zealand sailor had been equipped with woollen comforts given by the Spinning Circle. A parcel had been forwarded to a local resident serving in the naval forces. It was decided to send parcels regularly to Timaru men in the Navy or mercantile marine. A social is to be tendered to the next-of-kin of local men giving service at sea. Mrs Holdgate reported on the remits discussed at the meeting of the National Council of Women. Miss Stevenson was appointed second delegate to that body. Mrs Cave proposed that the twentieth anniversary of the opening- of the present Rest be suitably celebrated. It being “White Ribbon Day,” Miss Fyfe read suitable articles from the “Outlook” and the “White Robbon.”
Mrs Holdgate and Mrs Howe were appointed hostesses for the July meeting.
