TEMUKA PARENTS AND TEACHERS

Closer Co-operation Urged Parents’ Day A Success A plea for closer co-operation between parents and teachers in furthering the welfare of the children was made by the headmaster of the Temuka District High School iMr J. L. Menzies) when commenting at the monthly meeting of the School Committee, on the visit of parents to the school during the recent Community Week. "Nothing but good can result from close co-operation between the two institutions of home and school whose function it is to promote the well-being of young children,” he said.

Mr Menzies said that the attendance of parents at the school on Barents’ Day had been most gratifying. He expressed a hope that before long a closer band between home and school would be developed. Parents’ pay had resulted in a better understanding by parents of what the school was seeking to do.

Mr S. Higginbottom pointed out the need for a piano for use by secondary pupils, and the meeting agreed that an endeavour be made to procure a suitable Instrument as soon as possible. In supporting Mr Higginbottom's suggestion, the headmaster spoke of the need for an assembly hall where musical and allied activities could be promoted under the most favourable conditions. The school, he said, would benefit greatly by having such a biulding and he hoped the matter would be pressed with the authorities.

The secretary (Mr F. N. Ward) was instructed to apply to the Education Board for modern furniture for one High School room.
