Morven Presbyterian Charge Induction Ceremony

The Rev. E. E. Andrews, M.A., was inducted into the Morven Presbyterian charge in the presence of a large congregation representing all sections of the charge, from Willowbridge to Glenavy. The service was conducted by the Moderator of the Presbytery, the Rev. M. W. Wilson, M.A., of Chalmers Church, Timaru. The sermon was preached by the Rev. C. L. Gosling, 8.A., and the charge was given to the minister and congregation by the Rev. P. Keene. At the conclusion of the service, a welcome social was held in the Morven Hall, which was presided over by the Rev. P. Keene, who was interim moderator of the charge during the vacancy. Solos were given by Misses M. Cleland and J. Buchanan, accompanied by Miss A. Head, and the following welcomed Mr and Mrs Andrews to Morven:—The Rev. M. W. Wilson, on behalf of the Timaru Presbytery; Messrs W. G. Scarlett and F. Calwell, on behalf of the members and adherents of the church; Mesdames W. S. Hassell and Cuthbertson, senr., on behalf of the women, Mrs Hassell presenting Mrs Andrews with a shoulder spray; Mr J. Scarlett, on behalf of the Bible Classes; Mr E. J. Hay, on behalf of the Sunday Schools; the" Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, M.A., fol - Trinity Church. Timaru; the Rev. D. Mclntyre, for St. Andrews; the Rev. C. L. Gosling, for Waimate; and Mr G. Clelland, for Waihao Valley. In his reply, Mr Andrews thanked the people for their cordial welcome and for the manner in which they had made the manse ready for the arrival of Mrs Andrews and himself. He said that he was greatly heartened by the assurances of support and co-operation he had received.

A presentation was made to Mr Keene for his work as Interim Moderator during the vacancy.

Junior Competitions

There was a large audience for the concluding evening of the Waimate Junior Competitions. The Rev. H. Benny (president of the committee) thanked the judges for their services, and expressed appreciatiori of the excellent support accorded the festival. Because of the large number of entries, three classes in the vocal section were set down for a special session in the afternoon. The evening programme comprised vocal, elocution and instrumental classes. Placings were:

Golf

Eighteen pail’s contested the qualifying round of the Hamilton Cup (mixed foursomes) played on the Waimate Golf Club's course. The following players qualified: Mrs Healey and A. Guy 88-16-72, Mrs Leslie and R. Deacon 87-13-74, Mrs Grant and D. Keyes 92-18-74. Mrs Leadbetter and M. Leadbetter 92-17-75, Mrs Dyer and A. H. Cooke 96-20-76, Mrs Rattray and J. W. Tennant 91-14-77, Mrs Waldie and T. Waldie 94-17-77.

Three pairs tied for the eighth place and will play off on July 1.
