MORE MINERS JOIN STRIKE

Nearly 1000 Men Idle Prospects For Settlement (N.Z.P.A.) GREYMOUTH, Jan. 12. The Dobson miners joined the strike this morning. There are now 940 men idle, and the daily loss is 1600 tons of coal. The Member for Westland (the Hon. J. O’Brien) is arriving this afternoon to address the miners this evening. The District Miners’ Council is meeting to-day and settlement prospects are increasing. Dunedin members of the New Zealand Coal Mines Council have been summoned urgently to the West Coast to investigate the stoppage of work at several of the mines on the Coast coalfield. This morning, Mr A. Prendeville, of Nightcaps, a member of the Council, passed through Dunedin bv the through express on his way "to the West Coast.
