Chinese Take All Villages
(Rec. 8 p.m.) CHUNGKING. Jan. 5. Tire Chinese have captured all the villages surrounding Owchihkow, the Japanese-held river port north of Tungting Lake, says a Chinese communique. The Chmese are now advancing toward Owchihkow. The Chinese Minister of Information, Mr Liang Han-Chao, stated that Chinese armies were ready to launch a general offensive in 1944, but were counting upon the Allied operations in other theatres. He added that the augmentation of the Allies’ air strength in China would be particularly helpful to any extensive Chinese offensive. A communique issued by MajorGeneral J. C. Stilwell, Commander of the United States Air Force in China, states that further escorted Liberators dropped 10 tons of bombs on the Japanese base at Pampang, Thailand, where enemy installations were apparently gutted. Fighter-bombers attacked the Japanese-occupied Pingka, western Yunnan, and started extensive fires.
