KILLED IN ACTION

<9.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Nov. 11. Mr Roydon Keith Palmer, a New Zealander, who was war correspondent for the Melbourne “Herald” in the South Pacific area, was killed in action during the Japanese bombing attack last Sunday. He was covering American operations on Bougainville as frontline correspondent. The Australian Newspaper Proprietors' Association conference, paying tribute to Mr Palmer's work, said that his articles added to the faithful and vivid battle reporting of the great group of war correspondents.
Mr Palmer began his newspaper career on the staff of "The Sun." Christchurch. He later became cable sub-editor of the “Press.” Christchurch. and after serving in that position for two years he left New Zealand to join the "Herald,” Melbourne. Aviation was his special interest: he undertook many long-distance flights for his paper and his articles on flying were widely published in the Empire press. He was educated at Nelson College and In 1933 he married Miss M. E. McKee, of Dublin. He Is survived by his wife and two children.
