Reply By Prime Minister (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 24. On the vote for the Department of Labour. Mr W. Sullivan 'National, Bay of Plenty) asked about the £5O and also the £B3 in the unauthorised vote for travelling expenses Mr A. F. Moncur (Government, Rotorua): “In furtherance of the industrial war effort.” He said that even’ member had done something in the same way without getting expenses refunded. The Hon. P. C. Webb said that Mr Moncur had returned from overseas with information regarding the Japanese menace and had gone around factories at the invitation of employers who had written letters of appreciation. He had been told that Mr Moncur’s addresses had increased the work by 10 to 15 per cent because the workers had been made to realise the seriousness of the position. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) said the House w’as proud of all members who had served in the Forces, and if the member for Mataura (Mr T. L. Macdonald, National) was well enough to go around and speak at factories or anywhere else the Government would be glad to send him. If Brigadier J. Hargest, D. 5.0.. M.C.. cam? back, and Mr Fraser said he hoped he would before many days were past, the Government would invite him to go round the country and would pay his expenses w r hilr he did so.
