Armed Forces Appeal Board The No. 108 Armed Forces Appeal Board will sit in Waimate to-day. No sittings have been arranged for next week. Brigade Kept Busy The Timaru Fire Brigade has been kept busy during the last two days. On Tuesday it responded to two calls, one a chimney fire at the residence of Mr R. Solomon. 3 James Street, and the other a chimney fire at the residence of Mr T. H. Waaka. 124 Evans Street. In the early hours of yesterday morning the brigade responded to a call to an overturned car in Butler Street but its services were not required. Later in the day a chimney fire at the residence of Mr W Whitley. 47 Wilson Street, resulted in the brigade being again called out. The three chimney fires were quickly extinguished, no damage resulting Townswomen’s Guild Mrs A. McAlister presided at the monthly meeting of the Townswomen 3 Guild. A cordial welcome was accorded to a new member. A motion of sympathy was passed to Finlay and Andrew Congratulations were extended to Mrs McAlister on being elected a J.P. and also on being nominated to the committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Remits for the coming conference were discussed. Members were reminded ot the golden jubilee of the Women's Franchise to be held in September The Guild has offered to take over the patriotic shop in November. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs Finlay who gave a description of some of the streets of Timaru in the early pioneer days. Members of the Gleniti Women’s Institute entertained with songs and novelty items. The hostesses were Mesdames Osborn. Richardt. Shaw. E. Ramsay. W. Ramsay and Cumberbeach.
