TIMARU MUSIC CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SEASON There was a fair attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Timaru Music Club, which was held on Saturday night. After welcoming members, the president, Mr R. N. Downes, expressed appreciation of the work of the conductor, orchestra, performers and officials, and said that the prospects were that the club would continue to function successfully. The year would probably present difficulties, particularly so far as the orchestra and performers were concerned, but if members maintained their interest, then the season should prove as enjoyable as those that had been held in the past. The report and balance-sheet, which disclosed a sound financial position, were adopted.
The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Major W. G. Tweedy; president, Mr R. N. Downes; vicepresidents, Miss M .Smith and Mr R. C. Tonkin; honorary secretary, Miss G. Spring; honorary treasurer, Miss E. Morgan; conductor, Mrs A. C. Fahey; committee, Misses L. McGuire. L. McDonald, E. Sewell, A. K. Elliot, Messrs A. W. Vine and Inglis Todd. Difficulties associated with the holding of a continuous season were discussed and it was decided to conduct evenings in May, July, August and September, it being left to the committee to consider an open night as an additional evening at the end of the season.
Votes of thanks were passed to the conductor, orchestra, performers and officials, and also to Mr Inglis Todd for the use of his home for meetings.
