TIMARU ATHLETES AT OAMARU
The South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club sent a strong team to take part in the North Otago Championships on Saturday. Keith Plunkett, who has already had a run of successes in the South Canterbury, Canterbury and Otago championships, was again the star performer. He ran brilliantly to win both the 100 yards and 220 yards North Otago championships. He also won the junior broad jump championship. South Canterbury athletes filled the places in the 220 yards as follows: K. Plunkett 1. J. Annear 2, 13. Shipman 3. In the women’s section R. Cross won the high jump title and filled second place in the broad jump and 100 yards. R. McMurray won the discus championship. In the 120 junior hurdles B. Shipman was second and T. Myers third. In the 440 yards F. Cormack was fourth and second in the 880 yards. In the mile R. McMurray was fourth, D. L. Campbell filled third place in both the shot putt and broad jump, while B. Shipman was third in the high jump. T. Myer was third in the discus and fourth in the putt shot. Unfortunately the club was unable to compete in the men’s relay as it had to leave before the meeting was over.
