CLOSING OF SEASON The South Canterbury Women’s Baseball Association held its closing day at Ashbury Park last Saturday. The patroness, Mrs W. G. Tweedy, welcomed the Mayor (Mr A. E. S. Hanan) on behalf of the Association, and hoped that next season would see the girls as fit but a little quicker on their feet. Mrs Tweedy also suggested that secondary schools be encouraged to enter next season. She thanked the girls for the honour of being elected patroness and also congratulated Miss M. Woods, of the Physical Welfare Department. on the excellent training the girls had received during the season. The Mayor said that health was one of the greatest assets young people could have. He was pleased to see so many fit young girls, but hoped that next season would see more teams entering in the competition. Mr Hanan presented a cup to Ashbury. the winning team, which is to be called the “Hanan Cup,” to be competed for each season. Competition results for 1942-43 season were:—Ashbury 14, Technical 11, Kiwi 9, Bruce s 2.
