Casualties Inflicted
LONDON, January 28. A communique from India reports a patrol encounter east of the Chin Hills, in Burma, when British troops set fire to enemy houses and killed and wounded several Japanese soldiers. The British casualties were one man wounded. Royal Air Force Blenheims yesterday bombed objectives on the Mayu Peninsula and Akyab Island. One British aircraft is missing. The presence of Siamese troops on the Burma border of Southern Yunnan is interpreted in Chungking as indicating a secret military agreement between Japan and Siam. It is believed that Japan may have bought Siamese support by promising to transfer after the war certain Chinese territory to Siam. The Chinese, who estimate the Siamese at two divisions, have a poor opinion of these troops. 'Die divisions have Siamese officers will) Japanese “advisers.”
