WOULD HELP MORALE

Food and Clothing For French Arabs

(8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 11. After 10 weeks’ occupation of Algiers and Dakar, French Arabs are askin;, “Where is the food and clothing promised by the Americans?” says the Algiers correspondent of the Britisn United Press. A spokesman touched on the problem at Dakar to-day, saying that half a shipload of food and clothing, particularly rice and cotton goods, would be a very important factor in building up morale. He knew this was a matter of prime importance to the colonies, which had been starved economically for years. The Allies had gained considerable shipping at Dakar, but it would be some time before thej’ were in a position to fight a modernly equipped naval enemy. The correspondent says the situation at Dakar Is typical of all the ports in French North Africa, where the German and Italian Commission stripped the countries to the bone. Most of the A'.l’-.d shipments hitherto had been men. equipment and munitions.
