WOMAN TAXI DRIVER STABBED

(N.Z.P.A.) DUNEDIN. Jan. 8. Miss Nellie Duncan, a woman driver employed by Dunedin Taxis, sustained a knife stab in the breast at the hands of a fare at about midnight. She had answered a call half an hour previously from a young man who asked to be. taken to Anderson’s Bay. When that neighbourhood was reached he wanted to go on to Highcliff, but, on being informed that that was beyond the prescribed limit, he requested to be taken back to a point on the Town Belt between Eglington Road and McGeorge Street. He asked Miss Duncan to stop the car. and while alighting, stabbed her in the breast and then decamped. Tire woman was able to drive to the depot, but lost much blood, necessitating a transfusion. Her condition is reported to be serious though not immediately dangerous. An Arrest Made (N.Z.P.A.) DUNEDIN. Jan. 8. Late to-night the police arrested a suspect who will be charged in the Court to-morrow. The condition of Miss Duncan is reported to be improving.
